PASS South CV Products 125 at Concord Speedway Becoming a Fast Growing Attraction to Area’s Race Weeks

Charlotte, NC 5/21/12- Throughout the country Concord, North Carolina is known as the “Mecca of Motorsports” hosting some of the biggest and badest motorsports series and events from around the country. The biggest weekend of all is the area’s annual Memorial Day weekend which plays host to NASCAR races at the big track Saturday during the day and again on late Sunday afternoon. This situation has now made the PASS South CV Products 125 at the Concord Speedway, located off of Highway 601 South, the place for race fans to catch some of the best super late model short track action the area has to offer on Saturday night May 26th.

“I can’t wait for the PASS race! When I found out there was a race at Concord Speedway while I was in town for all the races I decided right away I had to go. The PASS series always puts on a great show for the fans and with it being scheduled for Saturday night when there’s nothing else going on it’s an awesome opportunity for a fan to catch some good short track racing,” stated Chris Austill a fan making the trek from the state of Connecticut.

Both local fans of the series and die hard race fans from around the country that are in town for the area’s race weeks will flock to the ultra fast half mile triangular track Saturday night. Fans in attendance not only get to see the bumping and banging of short track racing that they would otherwise miss on a large scale track. They also get to see many of the future stars of the sport including that of Ryan Blaney, son of NASCAR driver Dave Blaney, Landon Cling and Nate Caruth both of whom drive for NASCAR star Brad Keselowski. A pair of drivers in the form of Kyle Grissom and Ross Kenseth, both following in the footsteps of their NASCAR championship winning fathers will also be looking to take home some hardware in front of the hometown crowd.

Kenseth, who is the son of 2012 Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth, currently holds the top spot in the PASS South Series championship standings after four races over Grissom. The drivers stated above all show how the youth movement has taken the sport by storm, but unlike most series around the country the bread and butter of the PASS South Series is the veteran drivers like Jay Fogleman, Preston Peltier, and Brandon Ward who all make every start, every pass, and every battle on the track difficult on any driver who plans on winning a race.

“I’ve really learned a lot racing in the PASS South Series over the years against the older guys like (Jay) Fogleman and (Preston) Peltier which has helped me now that I’m racing against the guys just like them in the NASCAR ranks,” said Ryan Blaney, driver of the #98 Carswell Motorsports machine. “Racing against those guys teaches you to stand your ground and not get bullied around. If you do that they will respect you just like you are one of them. I’ve been fortunate enough to get this opportunity with Carswell Motorsports to keep racing a super late model, and this weekend at Concord should be a good chance to get back to victory lane in the PASS South Series for both of us. I’m really looking forward to it.”

In coordination with the CV Products 125 at the Concord Speedway fans will get a chance to meet and get autographs from several series drivers at a special autograph session at Wal-Mart located at 150 Concord Commons Place in Concord, North Carolina. Thursday night May 24th Kyle Grissom, Ross Kenseth, and Preston Peltier will be in attendance from 5-7pm meeting with fans. The following morning Friday May 25th Landon Cling, Nate Caruth, Jay Fogleman, and Brandon Ward will signing autographs and handing out $5 off coupons to Saturday night’s race from 10am-12 noon.

“The Big Boys and Their Bad Fast Toys” put the pedal to the metal Saturday at the Concord Speedway starting with practice for the 125 lap event at 2pm, followed by time trails at 5pm. The series always popular on-track meet and greet with the drivers of the PASS South Series gets underway at approximately 6:15pm proceeded by 125 laps of high horsepower super late model action.

Heintz Performance Announced as Title Sponsor for Sportsman Division

CONCORD, N.C. (May 16, 2012) – Concord Speedway is excited to announce Heintz Performance as title sponsor for their new Sportsman division. Heintz Performance will begin their sponsorship when the Sportsman division gets into action for their first race of the season on June 2. They will extend their support at the June 9 event by providing bonus money for the top three finishers in addition to the 400 dollars to win.

The night will also feature 100 Laps for the Wilburn Auto Body Late Model Stock Car division, Twin 25-Lap races for the Pepsi Street Stocks, 25 laps for the Town and Country Ford Fast & Furious Fours division and 25 laps for the Vintage Sportsman Division. There will also be race car rides, face painting and bounce houses all for the kids!

Double the Races, Double the Wins for Kenny Brooks at High School Senior Night at the Races at Concord Speedway

CONCORD, N.C. (May 12, 2012) – Kenny Brooks, of Concord, N.C. proved that two races and two wins in one night was not impossible as he notched two more victories in his record book in the Wilburn Auto Body Late Model Stock Car division Twin 50-Lap feature events. Sonny Schoffen, of Mint Hill, N.C., and Adam Morgan, of Concord, N.C., also scored victories in tonight’s feature events on Concord Speedway’s Half-Mile Tri-Oval.

In the first of Brooks’ two trips to the Rack Room Shoes Victory Lane, he walked away with his fourth victory of the 2012 season in the Wilburn Auto Body Late Model Stock Car division 50-lap feature event. In a battle to conserve their tires, Jeff Melton, of Concord, N.C., and Andrew Thomas, of Monroe, N.C., waited until the last five laps to really pressure Brooks’ lead as well as battle for the second position. Thomas nearly lost control in hopes to complete a pass for second on Melton with two laps to go, but Melton was able to hold on to finish second and Thomas rounded out the top three.

Brooks fought a much harder battle for his victory in the second of the Twin 50-Lap feature events for the Wilburn Auto Body Late Model Stock Car division. Brooks and Thomas battled door-to-door until a caution came out on lap 19 for a spin by Melton. On the restart, Brooks got extremely loose exiting turn four and fell back to the tail end of the field.

However, Brooks didn’t give up easy and by lap 25 he had fought his way back to third position and closed onto the bumper of the 2011 Concord Speedway Track Champion, Bobby Measmer, Jr., of Concord, N.C. In 12 laps, Brooks had made his way past the two very strong cars of Measmer and Thomas and muscled his way back into the lead. Thomas went on to battle Measmer to take home second position and Measmer settled for third.

After two disappointing weeks of hard breaks for Schoffen, he finally scored his first victory of the season in the Pepsi Street Stocks division 40-Lap feature event. This was no easy feat for Schoffen, who battled tight competition the entire race from Brian Love, of Mount Pleasant, N.C., who already has two wins this season.

However, a late race altercation on lap 37 between Love and Cooper Faassen, of Monroe, N.C., created some fireworks between the two, but also opened the door for Schoffen to walk away with the victory as Charles Faassen, of Monroe, N.C., finished second and Ron Flynn, of Harrisburg, N.C., in third.

Morgan grabbed the win in the 25-Lap feature event for the Town and Country Ford Fast and Furious Fours division. Tracy Mullis, of Marshville, N.C., jumped out to an incredible 10-car lead while Morgan charged rapidly through the field in hopes to make it to the bumper of Mullis’ car.

Morgan, who set a new track record with his lap of 19.799 seconds and 90.914 mph, didn’t waste any time tracking Mullis down and lessened his lead to less than a car length with two laps to go. Morgan was able to complete the pass for the lead and Mullis fell back to second and Terry Parham, of Kannapolis, N.C., finished third.

In our second Kid’s Pedal Car race of the season, six-year-old Bailey Arey, of Richfield, N.C. won the Girl’s Division race and six-year-old Caymen Powell, of Mint Hill, N.C., won the Boy’s Division race.

On Saturday, May 26, Concord Speedway will host the PASS South Super Late Model Series for their Memorial Day 125 event. Qualifying will begin at 5:15 p.m. with racing action starting at 7:30 p.m.

Our next Half-Mile event will be Saturday night, June 2, for Pizza Hut Kid’s Night at the Races at Concord Speedway. The racing show will feature 100 Laps for the Wilburn Auto Body Late Model Stock Car division, Twin 25-Lap races for the Pepsi Street Stocks, 25 laps for the Town and Country Ford Fast & Furious Fours division, 25 laps for the Vintage Sportsman Division and 25 Laps for our new Sportsman Division. We will also have race car rides, face painting and bounce houses all for the kids!

Grandstand admission is just 15 dollars and kids 12 and under are admitted for free at Concord Speedway. Also new for this year, the speedway will be offering a Senior, Teen and Military discount admission of 10 dollars.
