Concord Speedway Announces 2013 Plans

CONCORD, N.C. (September 12, 2012) – Concord Speedway would like to announce our plans for the 2013 season for both the Half-Mile and Quarter-Mile tracks.

The Half-Mile track will only host special events and touring series races in 2013. The facility will continue to be available for private testing, driving schools and television commercial production. Sanctioned, weekly racing has been declining for several seasons with no significant improvements on the horizon. However, track management will continue to monitor the economic conditions to determine if there is a viable opportunity to return to a weekly racing program in 2014. On behalf of the entire Speedway, we would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all of the teams, competitors, sponsors and fans who have supported the Half-Mile track over the years.

The Quarter-Mile track will continue to host Legend Car, Bandolero and Davis SRL Series weekly racing. The track has enjoyed tremendous success recently and is excited about expanding the number of events for 2013. With high car counts and a ticket price of only 7 dollars, it is a great place to enjoy some short track racing.

Please contact the speedway office at 704-782-4221 or visit our website at www.concordspeedway.net with any questions.

Quarter-Mile Track to Implement 2-Lap Qualifying for Remainder of Season

CONCORD, N.C. (September 5, 2012) – Concord Speedway is excited to announce the purchase of a new timing system that will allow for qualifying laps instead of heat races for all Legend Car and Bandolero divisions on the Quarter-Mile track.

The timing system will be installed this week and we plan on running 2-lap qualifying at this weekend’s double-header event. However, the Beginner Bandits division will only run 1 lap of qualifying. Because this is just a timing system and only to be used in qualifying, there will be no transponders needed.

As with all changes, we predict there will be an adjustment period, but we plan on making the transition as smooth as possible.

Concord Speedway looks forward to implementing the timing system this weekend and hope it will be seen as a great improvement for the speedway by our competitors.

Please contact the speedway office at 704-782-4221 or visit our website at www.concordspeedway.net with any questions.

Quarter-Mile Schedule Changes

CONCORD, N.C. (September 3, 2012) – INEX/U.S. Legends has requested that we make a few changes to our schedule to accommodate those drivers and teams who wish to participate in the rescheduled Bandolero Nationals to be held on September 21, 22.

Therefore, we have canceled our previously scheduled double-header event on September 21, 22 and have moved these race dates to be run on September 8 and 15. Our normally scheduled divisions of RPM Pro-Formance Legend Cars, Bandoleros and Davis SRL Series cars will run on both of these dates.

We apologize for any inconvenience or scheduling conflicts this may have caused. As always, we appreciate all of our competitors’ support of Concord Speedway each and every week!

Please contact the speedway office at 704-782-4221 or visit our website at www.concordspeedway.net with any questions.

Quarter-Mile Back in Action with a Bang for Doubleheader Weekend August 24, 25

CONCORD, N.C. (August 8, 2012) – Concord Speedway is eager to welcome back all of our Quarter-Mile competitors from what we hope was a successful and fun Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway for a doubleheader weekend on August 24 and 25.

RPM Pro-Formance Legend Car and Bandolero racing will return stronger than ever with six divisions of points battles yet to be decided! The Brooks Davis Memorial Scale Racing League or Davis SRL Series, previously known as the Arena Racing Outdoors Series will be back racing on our Quarter-Mile track as well. The series will race under the Davis SRL Series banner to honor one of the series’ ambassadors, Brooks Davis. Davis passed away at the end of June and his passion and enthusiasm for the sport will be greatly missed by competitors and speedway staff.

There have been a few modifications to our Quarter-Mile schedule to include more race dates. This will be our final schedule for the remainder of the season, however, there are more details coming about the season finale race weekend on October 5, 6 and 7. Please review our schedule at: http://concordspeedway.net/quarter-mile-schedule/

Feel free to contact the speedway office at 704-782-4221 or visit our website at www.concordspeedway.net with any questions. We look forward to all of our fans and competitors joining us to make our second half of the season a tremendous success!

CONCORD, N.C. (July 28, 2012) – Kenny Brooks, of Concord, N.C., secured the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points championship for the Wilburn Auto Body Late Model Stock Car division with his eleventh feature race win of the season at Town and Country Ford Night at the Races.

“It has been an incredible year and I couldn’t have done it without these guys that help me,” said Brooks. “I can’t forget to thank our sponsor, Don Nance with Don Nance Siding, Gutters and Windows. You know, I’ve been coming out here since I was a little boy and watched my dad win a bunch of races and I just thought that’s what you do. It’s like washing clothes, racing and winning is just what you do.”

Sonny Schoffen, of Mint Hill, N.C., Brad Ballard, of Kannapolis, N.C., and Tommy Nichols, of Mount Pleasant, N.C., also scored victories in tonight’s feature events on Concord Speedway’s Half-Mile Tri-Oval.

Sonny Schoffen was named the Pepsi Street Stocks division Champion, Adam Morgan, of Concord, N.C., won the Town and Country Ford Fast and Furious Fours division Championship, David Miller, of Concord, N.C., was crowned the Heintz Performance Sportsman division Champion and Bob Hapeman, of Midland, N.C., was named the Vintage Sportsman division Champion for the 2012 season at Concord Speedway.

Brooks notched on his eleventh win of the season, ninth pole and first-ever NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points championship in the Wilburn Auto Body Late Model Stock Car division 60-Lap feature race. Brooks won the hard-fought points championship by an astounding 22 points. At one time during the season, he only led by a mere eight points over Andrew Thomas, of Monroe, N.C.

Brooks shot out to a strong lead on the field leaving Jeff Melton, of Concord, N.C., and Thomas to battle for the second position. Thomas was able to overtake Melton and went on to set his sights on Brooks’ 10-car length lead.

Meanwhile, the battle for fourth position was heating up between Jerry Miracle, of Indian Trail, N.C., and Cole Custer, of Ladera Ranch, Calif. Miracle and Custer were able to make the pass on Melton’s third place position by lap 28. The caution flag halted the action on the track on lap 33 for the spun cars of Tony Pasquarello Sr., of Matthews, N.C., and Judson Dyar, of Charlotte, N.C., in turn two.

On lap 43, the caution came out yet again for oil down from Melton’s car. When the field finally got back green flag racing, Custer was sent to the tail for making a pit stop. This allowed Miracle to move up into the third position. Thomas was never able to track down Brooks’ lengthy lead and finished in second, while Miracle rounded out the top three.

Schoffen took home not only his seventh feature race win, but also the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Championship in the Pepsi Street Stocks division. Schoffen proved he had the strongest car by overtaking pole sitter, Charles Hutto, of Monroe, N.C., by only lap two. Schoffen continued to stretch out his lead while Hutto and Cooper Faassen, of Monroe, N.C., battled it out for second position. However, Hutto was able to keep Faassen in his rear view mirror for the entirety of the 30-Lap feature race and they finished in second and third.

Ballard grabbed his first feature race win of the season in the Town and Country Ford division 25-Lap race. However, Morgan took home the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Championship for the Fast and Furious Fours division.

Ballard jumped out to an early, early 10-car length lead on the field right off the bat. However, Morgan was carefully weaving his way from the back of the pack and passed Chris Parham, of China Grove, N.C., for the second place after only three laps. By halfway, Morgan had narrowed Ballard’s strong lead to only 2-car lengths. Morgan was never able to overtake Ballard for the lead and went on to finish second with Parham in third.

Nichols took home the victory in the Heintz Performance Sportsman division feature race. However, Miller grabbed the Track Championship for the division. The race was plagued by two cautions before lap three, including a five-car pile-up in turn two. When the field finally got back green flag racing, Miller was able to secure second position and Larry Huneycutt, of Kannapolis, N.C., rounded out the top three.

Madison Miracle, age 7, of Monroe, N.C., and Cameron Chaney, age 4, of Mount Pleasant, N.C., won the girl’s and boy’s Pedal Car races!

Next week, Saturday, August 4, the UARA Series will storm into action for the City Chevrolet 150. A series that can boast raising the next biggest stars in racing, such as Austin and Ty Dillon, Corey LaJoie and Steve Wallace, makes UARA Series racing action some you don’t want to miss!
